Oxford Shoes

I’m fixated on finding the perfect oxford shoe.

I had a beautiful pair, but they had NO padding for the ball of the foot. The two inch stack heel was a versatile height, the capped toe looked finished, the opening was perfect… not too high, not too low… sigh. I tried 3 different insoles, but they weren’t much help and with them in, the toe box was too small. So I let them go, as life is both too short, and too long, for uncomfortable shoes.

At any rate, now I’m on the hunt. I’m seeing a lot of oxford shoes out there, it is inevitable the perfect pair will turn up. I’ve learned from previous such obsessions that it is pointless to buy anything short of my ideal. If I do, I won’t love it, I won’t wear it, and I’ll have wasted my money. Never settle!

Here’s an assortment of oxfords available online right now:

Favorite Things: Entertainment

My favorite time killing entertainments are listed below, starting with the most serious and dwindling quickly to pastimes with no social value or redeeming qualities… enjoy!

  • The Week news magazine. Provides right, left, and center views of major news topics, as well as a synopsis of US news, world news, and some fun entertainment pieces. It’s a great way for busy folks to keep up with what’s going on in the world, there’s always something that makes me laugh, and plenty of conversation fodder.

  • British Crime novels. PD James novels are favorites, specifically the Adam Dalgliesh series. I’m a sucker for the whole genre. I started early, devouring every Agatha Christie novel stocked in my local library before my 13th birthday.
  • Music: The Luckiest, by Ben Folds. It’s a few years old, but I’d never heard it until Hubs played it for me a year ago. I feel super mushy every time I hear it. And while we’re talking about Ben Folds, have you ever heard his collaboration with William Shatner? Common People is my favorite song on the Has Been album. Sheer genius.

  • Surprise military homecoming videos. So many of our Service Men and Women are deployed in theaters of war these days. I cannot imagine the pride, fear, and hope their families must feel. If you haven’t watched any of these videos, check them out… they’re so completely and utterly heartwarming. I cry every time. There are dozens of great videos out there, but this one is a great place to start.
  • Watching talent show auditions on youtube (X Factor, American Idol, whatever), then stalking my favorite performers. You remember Paul Potts and Susan Boyle… my newest favorite: Ella Henderson, she’s a beautiful, sweet, 16 year old with a KILLER voice, and she writes her own songs. Can’t wait for her first album!

  • Wedding proposal videos on youtube. They get me every time. This one is a favorite. And the follow up video made me cry too. (Seriously, these 2 are worth the 10 minutes: so incredibly, amazingly, deeply sweet).
  • French Bulldog photos and videos. I know, I’ve said it before. I’m defenseless against their cuteness.
  •  Guilty pleasure: watching Archer. So. Incredibly. Offensive. I laugh so loud the neighbors can hear. Available on Netflix.

Favorite Things – Beauty

My fantastic co-worker Erin recently suggested writing a top 10 post about my favorite things of the moment. I loved the idea, and started writing. It turns out, I am incapable of simply listing favs without talking ad nauseum about why they’re so great. The post soon got out of hand. Waaaayyyy too long.

So instead, how about regular “Favorite Things” posts about beauty, foods, movies, etc? I list mine and I’d LOVE it if you guys would share yours too…

Without further ado, here’s my debut Favorite Things list:

  • Korres Lip Butter: I have it in Jasmine, Pomegranate, and Wild Rose. These babies are super hydrating and make my lips baby soft. They’re not sticky and the sheer colors are pretty.
  • Lipstick Queen lipstick in Trance: I found these when looking for my wedding lipstick. Anthropologie carries this set that’s great for checking out the brand. I wear each of the three, but definitely Trance more than any other lipstick I own. It’s a medium raspberry pink with sheer coverage and just a hint of blue to help the teeth look whiter. It also does a pretty good job moisturizing.
  • OPI nail drying drops, just got these and they rock. Not only do my nails dry faster, it moisturizes my cuticles too. That surprised me, I thought it would dry them out, but it contains oil and… OK, I have no idea how it does what it does, but it totally works.

  • Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation SPF 20. It’s medium coverage, feels amazing, and looks very natural. I’m almost out of my first bottle and about to reorder, which is amazing for me, I’ve been product jumping with foundation for years.
  • Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35. I have adult acne and sometimes with a bad outbreak the Armani isn’t enough coverage. This product is thicker and covers the really ugly stuff better. I also love this for traveling, as I can pack fewer items since the BB creams also contain moisturizer and primer. Time saving all-in-one? Yes please!
  • Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Grey-Khaki. This has been my go to daytime casual eyeliner for over a decade. I have blonde eyelashes so without eyeliner and mascara I look anemic. The Grey-Khaki is the perfect neutral and wakes my eyes up without overdoing it. The color is versatile, stays put fairly well, and it costs less than five dollars. In a pinch I’ve used it as eyebrow pencil too. I’m a huge fan.
